Osborne eCold 420ES — Double Door Undercounter Milk Chiller
Osborne Refrigerators · Übermilk Compatible
Most under-counter chillers are designed for bottles. The Osborne eCold 420ES is designed for milk — specifically, for the demands of a high-volume specialty coffee bar running Übermilk. At 257 litres across two sliding glass doors, it holds 30% more than a comparable Polar GL012 (198L), maintains +1°C to +5°C for consistent milk-serving temperature, and arrives factory-pre-drilled with 6 sealed grommet ports so your Übermilk hoses route directly. No drilling, no modification, no voided warranty.
Made in Britain by Osborne Refrigerators — established in West Sussex in 1963 — the 420ES delivers side-mounted compressor architecture and eCold specification (low-voltage maglev fans, improved insulation, LED lighting) that halves the running cost of comparable D-rated bottle coolers. At 120W versus 230W on the nearest competitor, the 420ES saves roughly €380 over seven years of continuous service at Irish commercial electricity rates.
This is the chiller for busy multi-group sites serving 200+ milk drinks/day, or anywhere two or more Übermilk units draw from the same fridge.

Financial benefits.
Lower running costs — 120W versus 230W on the comparable Polar GL012 saves ~€50/year in Irish commercial electricity. Over seven years, roughly €380 — enough to offset a meaningful portion of the purchase premium.
Reduced labour interruptions — 257L means fewer mid-service restocks. Full-shift capacity for a 200+ milk-drink site means baristas stay on the machine, not walking to the storeroom.
No drilling costs or warranty risk — factory-fitted Übermilk ports eliminate the €200 aftermarket drill job, the installation-day downtime, and the voided warranty that comes with modifying a generic bottle cooler.
Operational benefits.
Builds into cabinetry — front-vented design means the 420ES installs flush under counter joinery with no rear clearance required.
Zero-maintenance defrost — auto defrost with re-evaporation; no drip tray to empty, no manual intervention during service.
Sliding doors for tight bars — no swing clearance needed; ideal for compact bar layouts where hinged doors aren't practical.
THE REAL NUMBERS
Cheaper over 7 years — not more expensive.
A €2,695 milk chiller looks expensive next to a €750 generic bottle cooler. Total cost of ownership tells a different story. Here's what each actually costs to own and run over a 7-year service life — based on published specifications, Irish commercial electricity at €0.35/kWh, and normal multi-group coffee bar operation.
| Generic + aftermarket Polar GL012 + drilling | Workflow · Factory-ready Osborne eCold 420ES | |
|---|---|---|
| Unit purchase (ex-VAT) | ~ €750 | €2,695 |
| Aftermarket milk-hose drilling & install | ~ €200 + 1 day labour | €0 — factory fitted |
| Manufacturer warranty post-drilling | Voided | 2 years parts & labour, intact |
| Annual electricity (24-hr operation @ €0.35/kWh) | ~ €705 | ~ €370 |
| 7-year electricity cost | ~ €4,935 | ~ €2,590 |
| Capacity | 198 L (regular mid-service restocks) | 257 L (full-shift coverage) |
| Milk temperature stability | Set for 2–8 °C beverage range | Designed for +1 to +5 °C milk service |
| 7-year total (purchase + electricity + drill) | ~ €5,885 | ~ €5,285 — €600 less |
Figures based on published wattage (Polar GL012 technical datasheet and Osborne 2025 spec sheet), 24-hour operation assumption, and a €0.35/kWh reference rate for Irish commercial electricity. Excludes milk-waste reduction from tighter temperature control, which further improves the Osborne case.
KEY FEATURES
Everything a high-volume bar needs.
01 — 257L Dual-Door Capacity
Two sliding glass doors across a 1110mm unit — holds full-shift milk volume for multi-group, multi-Übermilk setups without mid-service restocking.
02 — +1°C to +5°C Operating Range
Milk-optimised temperature range maintained consistently throughout a full service shift. Fan-assisted cooling ensures rapid recovery after door opening.
03 — Side-Mounted Compressor
Compressor positioned at the side rather than the rear — maximises usable shelf depth across all three flat shelves per door. This is how the 420ES delivers 30% more capacity in only 210mm more width than rear-mount competitors.
04 — Front-Vented, Builds Into Cabinetry
Unlike rear-vented standard units, the 420ES installs flush into under-counter cabinetry or placed directly against a wall.
05 — Sliding Glass Doors Standard
Workflow imports the 420ES with sliding doors as standard — no swing clearance, ideal for compact specialty coffee bar layouts where hinged doors aren't practical.
06 — Auto Defrost + Re-Evaporation
No drip tray, no manual intervention — the re-evaporation system handles defrost water automatically. One less thing to manage behind a busy bar.
